Joni’s Song
Walked out into the woods with baby Joni on my back
To check out the hemlock trees, the birch and the tamarack
Well our breath was showing and it was snowing but it didn’t mean a thing
We wrote a little poem and on our way home we began to sing
It’s time to head for home, oh, it’s time to head for home
We’ve been gone too long, too far have we roamed
We’ve been gone too long and too far have we roamed
It’s time to head for home
Ten years ago we bought a new car and drove it to New Orleans
We hung out in bars and played guitars my Mississippi queen
Well the jazz was swinging and we were singing, the city was our friend
We filled our souls with Creole and drove ‘er home again
Chorus x2

Slips Away

|

Slips Away
I’ve been walking around on needles and pins
This over-talkative town is gonna do me in
But I don’t care anymore what all those people think
Just gonna strum a few chords, just gonna have a few drinks
And let it all slip away
When I was young and naive I thought the world would improve
It gave me something to believe, it helped my spirit to move
But now all I see is the shadow of death
And the world at my feet struggling to take its last breaths
Until it all slips away
But my useless heart can’t find the words
When the questions start, it’s nowhere to be heard
And I’m lost in clouds, don’t know what to do
When my actions speak louder than words to you
Now I put me to bed at the end of the day
But my chattering head has still got something to say
All these crosses to bear, all these bridges to burn
Get tangled up in my hair until the silence returns
And it all slips away

Kick at the Dam
04:45
|

Kick at the Dam
They’re have been times in my life
I wished myself to die
The world just seemed too big
And I didn’t seem to fit
But I came to my own defense
It doesn’t have to all make sense
And sometimes it’s enough just to make a living
I’m gonna kick at the dam until it blows, kick at the dam until it blows
Until it blows
Said, what you gonna do? I suppose,
Gonna kick at the dam until it blows
Put the grindstone to my nose
Kick at the dam until it blows
Well, the old men who live nearby
Don’t know how they all survived
They say that times were tough
And they had just enough
Well, I guess I’m doing just as well
As long as I got a soul to sell
I ain’t getting rich, but I’m getting rougher
Chorus
When the working day is done
And you still ain’t seen the sun
Your mind is on the brink
And begging you for a drink
The smell of the job is on your clothes
Clouds your eyes and steals your nose
When you put your head to bed, this is what you’re thinking…
Chorus

Land on My Feet
04:02
|
|||
Land On My Feet
I’m free-falling from clouds, well it’s a shock to the system
Don’t know where I’ll land but at least I got some direction
While I was up there I couldn’t make up my mind
Had no opinions to give you and I lost all track of time
Now I’m hurtling down, straight for the street
But don’t you worry my darling
I always land on my feet (x2)
Was it a lack of foresight that got me in this place
It’s all out of my hands, like the monkey they shot into space
While I was up there I was a kitten in a tree
I needed someone’s attention but I didn’t want people to see me
Chorus
I check out my horoscope
Don’t you know that it helps me cope
And if the stars align just right, you know that I’ll be
Landing on my feet
I always land on my feet...

Thank You China

Thank You China
I know my way around a workbench, yeah I know a little bit about tools
But if I had to build an iPod, then I really would be screwed
I try to shop local and I hope that you do too
But I believe in giving credit where credit is due
So thank you China for making all our stuff
If we had to do it all ourselves, well we sure would have it rough
Those big ol’ container ships, they can’t come fast enough
Thank you China for making our stuff
Thank you China for making all our toys
Electronic devices for all those American girls and boys
Where would we be without those blinking lights and noise
Thank you China for bringing us joy
With a sense of community and a work ethic carved from stone
Give them some plastic and some silicon and they’ll give you a cellular phone
Ten billion fingers working to the bone
Hey there China! We owe you one
So thank you China for making all our stuff
If we had to do it all ourselves, well we sure would have it rough
Those big ol’ container ships, they can’t come fast enough
Thank you China for making our stuff
Thank you China for making our stuff
(And Japan and Mexico too)
Thank you China for making our stuff
(Here’s looking at you Taiwan)
Thank you China for making our stuff

Long May We Roll
03:51
|

Long May We Roll
May your heart shine bright like diamonds on fire
May your heart be light like a bird on a wire
May our love run deep like a dreamless sleep
And long may we roll
I went on a journey of a thousand miles
That first step was the hardest trial
I still remember your parting smile
Went on a journey of a thousand miles
Chorus
Couldn’t seem to do anything right
Just about to give up the fight
You came to me when I need light
Couldn’t seem to do anything right
Chorus x2
